Redfox co-founder, co-owner and director Topic: Russia, the land of opportunity? --- PRESENTATION OVERVIEW: Following on from last years evaluation of the Chinese market, one of this year’s presentations on developing markets will examine Russia. With its close proximity to Europe, Russia is blessed with an enormous outdoor playground offering its inhabitants unrivalled opportunities for outdoor sports. And with a population almost half the size of the EEC and vast natural resources powering the economy forward it has many of the right ingredients to develop into a substantial market for outdoor products. Vlad will bring his own local experience and knowledge to revealing what stage of development the outdoor market in Russia is at today, what will be the key trends over the next few years and what are the unique aspects of the market that are vital to understand if one is to successfully launch a brand there.
RESUME: Vlad started climbing in 1980 in the Soviet era when he was studying at the Electrical Engineers University. This quickly became his main passion and he spent all his spare time training and visiting the mountains. He became a member of the University of St.Petersburg climbing team, which enabled him to learn climbing and mountaineering in a very intense environment. After graduating as a technical radio engineer Vlad served in the Army, but luckily was in the sports division and so spent 12 out of the 17 months in the mountains. Soon after Vlad and his climbing partner Alexander Gloushkovskiy formed THIRD POLE Travel and Adventure to organise climbing expeditions in the Russian Mountains and around the same time they launched the equipment company Red Fox which today is one of Russia’s leading outdoor companies. At 24 he was the youngest Master of Alpine Sport in Russia. Vlads climbing career includes a number of first’s, the first winter climb of the Lenin Peak (7134m), the Korjenevskoy Peak (7105 m), the first winter climb in Bezengi in the Caucasus and a new route to the AkSu Peak in 1984.Vlad was part of the team that in 1990 organised the first Russia climbing club Himalayan Expedition to Cho Oyu via a very difficult and unclimbed route. As a member of BASECLIMB 1 team he was awarded the Guiness book of records certificate for the first BASECLIMB expedition to Great Trango Towers in 1992. Besides climbing he has led a series of dog sledging expeditions to the Kolskiy Peninsula, inside the Polar Circle. Vlad turned 50 recently and has been married to Olga for 27 years and has two children |
